I have a few of these photos, but am always captivated by the birds perching on the Volkswagen on a smokestack. Updated with newer camera.

@ Amsterdam, New York.
...formerly known as St. Casimir's parking lot.
In the midst of hard economic times, the Catholic Church has consolidated parishes and sold off some churches in an effort to save money. St. Casimir's is a prime example. Sitting on the main drag (Route 5) in a rundown Hispanic neighborhood, St. Casimir's was once the church of the the Lithuanian Catholics who worked in Amsterdam's mills. The mills have long since closed down and St. Casimir's was purchased in 2010 by Chinese Buddhists.
From Lithuanians to Hispanics to the Chinese, I guess that Lady Liberty is an appropriate symbol of the cultural melting pot in Amsterdam, NY.

The thing that caught my eye about this place was the word "synagogue." The sign says (per google's translation): Pentecostal Church of God, 2nd Synagogue. It seemed odd that a Christian church (as evidenced by the cross above the globe to the right) would refer to itself by the name used for a Jewish house of worship.
Anyway...there are numerous storefront churches catering to the relatively poor Hispanic population residing in downtown Amsterdam. Apparently, the church group that used to meet here has moved. Maybe they couldn't make rent. Even Jesus doesn't get a free ride in today's economy.
