Thorfinn Expeditions' owner Thor Emory, paddles 10 miles from Lincolnville Beach to Rockport (Maine). It was a chilly day on beautiful Penobscot Bay with temps in the low twenties. The trip took 1hr 50min and the camera battery froze enroute, even the deck on Thor's SUP ( a carbon Naish Glide 14') started to ice up. The Lincolnville Kindergarten Bird Garden was designed to celebrate the birds that have been visiting the children's play area. Magpies, Lorikeets, noisy miners, Kookaburras and many others. Debbie has made a birdbath for the birds to drink from. The four year olds at the Kindergarten made birds out of clay which were fired and then incorporated into three mosiaced poles, which decorate the playground. The three year old children made clay feet and decorated them. These have been incorporated into five mosaic pavers which lead in a trail to the birdbath. We're Glad Your Here with St. Augustine Mayor Joe Boles tells some of Lincolnville's rich black history. Filmed by St. Augustine filmmaker Bruce Merwin on December 3, 2011. St. Benedict the Moor Church is located at 86 ML King Avenue in Lincolnville, St. Augustine, FL. Who was St. Benedict? He was the patron saint of African-Americans, was beatified by Pope Benedict XIV in 1743 and canonized in 1807 by Pope Pius VII, he is remembered for his patience and understanding. In 1890 that certain property on Central Avenue, (now 86 ML King Avenue) St. Augustine, Florida, was deeded to Bishop John Moore whose plans were to erect a church, school and other buildings whose income would support a resident priest. On February 5, 1911 the Most Reverend Bishop William J. Kenney dedicated the Church of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church and from this date through 1914 the church was a mission in charge of Cathedral Clergy. The first rector of St. Benedict was Father James B. Albert, SSJ, whose work still bears fruit in St. Augustine. On February 5, 2011, St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church and all of St. Augustine had cause to celebrate their 100th Anniversary. |

Fundado en 1565 por Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, este pueblo pasa por ser el asentamiento europeo permanente más antiguo de los Estados Unidos. En apenas 28 kilómetros cuadrados se concentran castillos, museos, edificios históricos e infinidad de atracciones turísticas. A lo largo de las calles se hace referencia continuamente a los conquistadores y exploradores Españoles que desde 1513, con Ponce de León a la cabeza ya pesar de que diversas expediciones habían explorado la zona, no pudieron establecerse con éxito debido a las condiciones inhóspitas del terreno. A su vez, esta villa está situada al noreste del estado de la Florida a pocos kilómetros de Jacksonville en el condado de St. Johns. En cuanto a la ruta, se extiende a lo largo de 9 millas sobre las calles de adoquines recorriendo prácticamente todos los puntos más relevantes del pueblo y visitando otro distrito histórico más al sur llamado Lincolnville, que está anexo también a la villa de Saint Augustine. En general, es un lugar cosmopolita y altamente visitado por gentes de todas partes del mundo, siempre hay música en vivo en los cientos de bares y restaurantes e incluso en la calle. La población no excede los 10.000 habitantes. |
